Canto Nono presents "Que Voz de Liberdade é Essa?", a new performance celebrating the work of Sérgio Godinho, one of the most influential figures in Portuguese music, through a contemporary, sensitive and voice-centred artistic approach.
Following A Força (o Poder) da Palavra, dedicated to José Mário Branco, the collective places once again the human voice at the core of its creative process, this time revisiting the poetic, musical and deeply human universe of Sérgio Godinho. The project emerges from a long-standing shared journey marked by admiration, artistic complicity and significant encounters over several decades.
For Canto Nono, this work represents both a closing and a renewal of a cycle: the collaboration on the album Irmão do Meio, the invitation to appear as special guests in Liberdade 25, and, more recently, Sérgio Godinho’s participation in the single Grão da Mesma Mó.
Que Voz de Liberdade é Essa? isn't a traditional concert. It is an immersive experience that seeks to deconstruct and reimagine Godinho’s songs, exploring new vocal textures, original arrangements and a contemporary sonic aesthetic, while remaining deeply rooted in the power of the word and the enduring meaning of the songs.
The narrative dimension of the performance is enriched by the special participation of acclaimed actor Pedro Lamares, whose voice brings new layers of meaning to Godinho’s poetry. Music and spoken word intertwine, creating an intense and emotive dialogue in which silence, listening and presence play a fundamental role.
The single Grão da Mesma Mó, now available on major digital platforms, serves as an artistic calling card for the universe of the performance. Accompanied by a music video directed by Francisca Siza, the track encapsulates the essence of the project: respect for Godinho’s original work alongside a commitment to reinvention and a contemporary reading of time, choice and life’s contrasts.
